Football frenzy in Melbourne
Blustery winds, hot meat pies and a roar from the Melbourne Cricket Ground can only mean one thing in Melbourne: football season. The season for ball sports kicked with a foot, winter heading into spring is an exciting time for footy enthusiasts and not many seasons are as good as this one. With AFL already kicked off and rugby in full swing, Melbourne is getting ready to host the blockbuster between our very own Socceroos and the champion Argentinean team at the MCG.
Soccer
Soccer is played throughout the Summer months from August to January in Victoria. Catch an A-League game at the Telstra Dome or MCG, on selected Friday and Monday nights, Saturdays and Sundays during the season. See our international Socceroos stars in a 'friendly' match at the MCG or witness locals, Melbourne Victory, at Telstra Dome. See South Melbourne Women's Football Club at home in Albert Park or national team the Matildas in Melbourne.
Australian Football League
The buzz you feel as you walk through Melbourne every weekend from March to September can most likely be attributed to the AFL. Melbourne is the home of Aussie Rules and a very proud one at that. Catch inter and intra-state rivals each weekend through winter, battling it out for a converted spot in the finals, held each year in September.
Rugby
The revamped Olympic Park plays host to the home games of local Rugby League team the Melbourne Storm. The Storm has impressed the League since it entered the competition in 1998 and continues to impress local crowds each week with strong and exciting performances.
