| At Kagu Ra Zaka, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the heart of Nagaoka's food region rather than the cultural hub of South Yarra, Melbourne. The wispy rice paper screens, delicate ceramic dishes and low-slung tables all evoke an unmistakably Japanese atmosphere. Coupled with this, the menu allows for a simple, frills-free dining experience, offering a range of sushi, soups, rice and noodle dishes. For oyster lovers, there's the slightly decadent kaki-furai oysters which are deep-fried and served with a savoury dipping sauce. There's even a range of Japanese drinks to quench parched mouths, including Oolong tea and Calpico soda. And, as at most low-key Japanese eateries, the prices are as friendly as the service.
