| If you want to taste the true definition of soul food, head to South Yarra's Yeah Maan Rastaraunt, a best-kept-secret haven for mouth-watering Caribbean cuisine. Situated on a busy corner, you could almost miss it except for the reggae pumping and the delicious vibe exuding from big colourful mural style paintings, open brick archways, brightly coloured chairs and rasta flags that deck out this funky mother and son operated establishment.
The menu offers a big range of national dishes like warm soca chicken salad - seasoned chicken strips, char grilled to perfection, laid to rest on snap fresh baby spinach and cos lettuce with chunky spiced tomatoes; Trinidad coconut creamed curried goat; and the infamous Yeah Maan Jamaican jerk chicken with cassava shoe-string fries which celebrities such as Cathy Freeman, Heath Ledger and the West Indian cricket team stop by for whenever they're in town. To cool off from the spicy dining, try a slice of syrupy pineapple upside-down cake or a pick from the selection of night caps, beers and cocktail recipes that include dark shadows - a whole grape fruit, mixed with condensed milk, a dash of rum and cinnamon to give it that extra zing.
