Abacus is a modern Chinese restaurant located in Malvern, one of Melbourne's more desirable inner south-eastern suburbs. Stylish red chairs with chrome detailing and pure white tablecloths contrast with the dark wooden floor. Imposing abstract panels dress the walls and feature different designs including the Abacus name and logo. The menu is varied and ranges from old-school Chinese dishes, through to whole Peking duck (perfect for sharing). They also have a kids menu so it's ideal for families too. Presentation is a priority with certain dishes arriving with flowers artfully arranged on the plate. Prices seem reasonable, although they may be slightly higher than you could pay in some other suburban restaurants - a couple should be able to wine and dine for less than $100. Not bad value considering the food is delicious and the presentation exquisite.
