| Like most of Melbourne's best night-spots, this place is tucked away in a dingy laneway lined with rubbish bins. Nice. But the littered cobblestones and dank smell are an integral part of the aptly named AC/DC Lane, where you will find Cherry's glowing red light spilling reflections into drain water puddles. Gritty and loud, Cherry is a rock'n'roller's hang-out. As dark as the Batcave, this smoke-filled bar caters for both music afficionados and people keen for a dance. The sticky dance floor is complemented by a large stage, where thespians can bust some action in front of Cherry's trademark red spangled curtains. Most people come to dance, or to watch others dance as they down Stella Artois or Ahasi, flowing from Cherry's ice-cold taps. The DJs' rock selection covers everything from '60s pop rock to hair metal through to the current '80s New-Wave revival. Cherry also plays host to one of Melbourne's best Northern Soul and funk nights - kicking off around midnight every Thursday, it's the place to be for some hip-shaking soul-clap action.
