| Nestled amongst the crush of galleries on Flinders Lane, it’s easy to assume Counter is just another. But you’d be wrong. The store is actually the retail outlet of the Craft Victoria gallery. Here, promising artisans across a variety of disciplines (including jewellery, glass and ceramics) sell one-off or limited-run production pieces. Approximately 90 per cent of the items are Victorian made, whilst the rest are drawn from around Australia. Many architects or interior designers come to commission truly inspired lighting, furniture or fixtures. But other clients are simply after gifts and homewares without the ho-hum factor. M.PADULA
