Saint Jude was a Christian saint in the New Testament. He's not the evil dude who betrayed Jesus but a nice guy who was the patron saint of lost causes and 'cases despaired of' - the kind of stuff people did back then. It's a pretty impressive job title, but St Jude's Cellars in Fitzroy is anything but a lost cause. If, however, you're looking for a bit of liquid salvation, this bar-slash-restaurant is probably well placed to serve you a glass or two.

Having taken over the former Bungalow 8 premises, James Langley and Laki Papadopoulos (of Panama Dining Room and Vegie Bar fame) have gone all out in tarting the joint up and have done an excellent job of introducing the north side to the world of clean facades.

A monochromatic scheme renders the decor crisp and purposeful, and a white tiled bar top, polished concrete floors and white washed brick walls create a perfect canvas for good wine and food.

There's a cellar (naturally) from which you can cherry pick your favourite drop, while the menu offers hearty meals such as slow-cooked kurobuta pork scotch with celery heart and parsley sauce. Sounding like something from the pages of the Bible itself, the fish wrapped in vine leaves with lemon and oregano is also an excellent choice, and would make one tasty last supper indeed.
