| Although this basement bar has only been around for a relatively short time, its building has been part of the Melbourne cityscape since 1886. The old Money Order Office (MOO) was originally built during the same era as the newly renovated GPO building, which stands across the street. Having undergone similar renovations to its sister building, MOO has a rich, warm atmosphere. It's decked out with leather armchairs, parquet floors and antiques sourced from the owner's private collection. Wrought iron gates (which previously belonged to a nunnery in Barcelona) separate the dining tables from the bar area. This venue won Best Australian Wine Bar at the Bar Awards in 2005 and was also a finalist in the same category in 2006. There are 1400 wines available, sourced from places such as Argentina, Italy, Spain and France. The Australian home front is also well represented by the seven vintages of Penfolds Grange on offer. Many wines are available by the glass, however those who are more serious about their vino will probably give their attention to one of the more upmarket bottles, or even attend one of the back-vintage wine auctions held on the first Monday of every month. The bar food menu offers dishes such as duck rillettes or grilled goat's cheese and vine leaf cigars.
