The stylish furnishings and surroundings of Botanical define the ethos of South Yarra dining. Polished oak floorboards, comfy black cane chairs and steel tables in grain wood, it's simple, sleek and refined. And like the suits that are worn to dine there, the food is expensive. The menu is heavy on meat and fish dishes, but vegetarians shouldn't shy away. There are four premium meat dishes, three of which require a minimum of two people. The desserts are a wonderland of classics: creme brulee; pavlova elegantly presented in a beehive meringue with dripping lime curd; sorbets - they're all there for the taking. Chris Lucas' wine selection is also impressive.
