| Dog's Bar is homely, authentic and refreshingly unpretentious (unlike some newer neighbouring establishments in St Kilda's Acland Street). Rich in history and classic in design, this wine bar features sprawling wrought iron gates and terrace seating - with water for dogs, of course. Polished floorboards lead to an open fireplace in the interior lounge, which is suited to cosy winter beers. Established almost 20 years ago by local Melbourne identity Donleavy Fitzpatrick, it was the St Kilda hangout before St Kilda was popular. It has a welcoming bohemian atmosphere, reflected in regular activities such as monthly artists' lunches and wine appreciation courses, as well as Spanish-themed tapas and short film nights. Drinkers ought to be pleased with the beverage selection which includes more than 150 wines with 24 by the glass, 18 bottled beers and Becks on tap. The snacks and meals on offer are better than your average pub grub - the seafood linguine and tortellini dishes have earned the venue mentions in various reviews and food guides. The friendly old-school neighbourhood feel continues in the bar's support for local artistic talent and involvement in St Kilda social calendar fixtures such as the Sunday street markets, St Kilda Film Festival and the Linden Gallery Postcard show.
