Dining – The Murray

Thanks to Mildura local and chef Stefano de Pieri and his ‘Gondola on the Murray’ book and television series, many visitors have discovered food and wine in the Mildura region.

Langtree Avenue is the dining hub of Mildura and has earned the nickname 'Feastreet'. The street offers relaxed alfresco dining, and an array of eateries. For a memorable fine dining experience, head to Stefano’s award-winning restaurant in the cellars of the Mildura Grand Hotel where you enjoy seasonal local ingredients such as yabbies, Murray cod, house-made prosciutto, olive oil, Murray River salt and asparagus spears.

There are many opportunities to dine on or along the Murray River around Mildura. Take a cruise on the gracious old paddle steamer, Rothbury, to Trentham Estate, a boutique winery on the banks of the river with a restaurant and barbecue facilities that combine wine and local produce with stunning views of the Murray. Gol Gol Hotel on the banks of the Murray River also offers alfresco dining with a view. Or, for an informal dining experience, fill up a picnic basket with gourmet food or buy one already stocked from Sunraysia Celebrations or 27 Deakin, and find yourself a quiet riverside spot.

Restaurants and cafés around the port in Echuca offer some great dining experiences with local produce featuring on many menus. Try renowned Oscar W’s Wharfside restaurant or Morrisons Riverview Estate restaurant overlooking the Murray. Or for a 360-degree view of the river, enjoy a meal on M.V. Mary Ann or Paddle Steamer Emmylou.

In Albury Wodonga sit alfresco under the shade of historic buildings and graceful streetscapes. Head to Dean Street and seek out The Green Zebra, The Source or Electra Cafe. In other towns along the Murray such as Swan Hill and Yarrawonga call in at one of the many country pubs for a good old fashioned hot meal and a cool ale or enjoy a leisurely lunch or late breakfast in the sunshine at one of the local cafés.
