| Cosy, simple and inviting, the Comfortable Chair certainly lives up to its name. Step inside this homely spot and you'll discover a barscape coated in op-shop styling; it's filled with overstuffed, retro sofas and grandpa armchairs, sourced straight out of the '60s, '70s, and God knows when. Yes, this hangout possesses a serious lounge-room feel. A visit to the Chair is like a trip into a chilled little house party. Expect snug corners, plenty of lounging action, vintage light shades, coin-operated tabletop games, exposed brick wall bits and the odd shiny disco ball thrown in for good measure. The Chair may be a little frayed around the edges, but that's just part of its appeal. University students come here in packs to kick back and play. They buzz around the beer garden in clusters and sink into the sofas, spouting deep conversation, which is no doubt lubricated by the joys of cheap beer. Some drinkers may ponder, 'are the cushy lounges just a little too comfortable at the Chair?' Perhaps. This venue is usually crowded, but maybe that's just because the regulars are ensconced in the embraces of the sofas. Thursday at the Chair is Uni Night, offering skint beer-lovers the opportunity to snap up $5.50 jugs of Coopers, as well as plenty of soulful DJ sounds. Live bands perform every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, brain-teasing trivia takes hold every Wednesday. |
