| Mini is the latest by the crew behind the CBD's Syracuse restaurant, where, in keeping with the culinary tradition of co-owner Charlie Sirianos' family, the cuisine is Greek-influenced and the wine and beer Greek-encouraged. The eatery is housed on Flinders Lane, although you'll need to step down the appropriately European-looking, cobblestoned Oliver Lane to gain access. So what's in the name? Mini is a brand of ouzo with a label that pictures a graceful, scantily clad Greek woman with nowhere near as much bite as the liquor she represents.
You'll notice Greek table wine, dessert wine and beer are on the menu and on the lips of your waiters as they list their recommendations. To start your meal, check out co-owner/chef Perry Peters' (ex-Mecca Bah and Syracuse) fresh cuttlefish stuffed with pork and pistachio and served with a sherried dandelion salad. For something lighter, you can try the likes of the summer green lentil soup with orzo and sheep's milk cheese. Perhaps the most irresistible main is the Greek hilopites pasta with cherry tomatoes, saffron and ricotta-like Greek mizithra cheese. There's also plenty of competition from the signature dish: a delicious stewed wild rabbit with golden eschalots, braised red cabbage and pickled baby zucchini.
