Surfing – Phillip Island

Surfers at Phillip Island

Phillip Island is recognised as one of the most consistently reliable and varied surf locations in Australia. The swell is rarely too small to surf and, depending on the swell size, you can usually find a sheltered break on almost any wind. More advanced surfers can find world-class beach breaks at Cape Woolamai and Cat Bay while safe surfing for learners can be found at Smiths Beach and YCW Beach.

There are quite a few surf shops that rent out equipment on the island and surf lessons are also available where you’ll learn to surf as well as about the surf conditions, what’s involved, and safety.

Note: Surf beaches on the south of the Island can be very dangerous at times. Please beware of rips and stay in areas where they are other people.
