| Trading in Melbourne's bustling Lonsdale street Greek precinct since 1978, Nondas and Maria Konstandakopoulos' Stalactites still boasts a strong family vibe. Open 24 hours, seven days a week, it is a virtual institution for dinner functions, early breakfasts and late night eating. Its famous staple, fresh gyros souvlaki, caters perfectly to the greasy cravings of the city's after-work bar crawlers, with an equally satisfying braised and skewered vegetable option for vegetarians. The restaurant's rather retro faux-cave interior, complete with namesake dangling stalactites, is endearingly kitsch, but the fare is genuinely traditional Greek cuisine. Chef: Dimitra Melios |
