| Set in the heart of Melbourne, this bar merges all sorts of art together with music and of course, alcohol. Upon entering Horse Bazaar, guests encounter the bar's famous immersive projection unit. Drawing inspiration from huge 19th Century paintings, the owners have tiled multiple video sources and projectors together to create a virtual reality experience which covers 20 metres of wall space. Horse Bazaar plays host to everything from eclectic visual and performing art shows to Motown funk DJ events and Balkan music nights. The leafy outside area is a great daytime booze spot and the free wireless internet makes it an attractive alternative to the office. The wine list has an Australian focus and the cocktail offerings are broad. Try the Farrang, which blends chilli-infused vodka with ginger liqueur, lime, coriander, brown sugar and ice. Alternatively, order the Mahoney, which mixes La Fee absinthe with apple juice, lemon juice and apple liqueur. After all that drinking, a trip to the bathroom may be in order. The men's room features the world's first rear projection urinal. You can take aim and pee straight onto the image being screened. Management even accepts visual media submissions for the urinal screenings. Yes, it seems Horse Bazaar does indeed have a bizarre streak. |
