Experience the essence of an authentic Japanese country spa retreat!

Soothe mind, body and spirit with a range of luxurious spa and holistic wellness therapies for day spa visitors and residential guests alike.

The indulgent menu includes massage, reflexology, facials, foot treats, body polish and wraps.

Leave your cares at the door and step inside the world of traditional Japanese hospitality.

Inspired by Japan's ancient ryokan inns, which provided a haven for weary travellers, Shizuka Ryokan offers you a place for renewal of mind, body and spirit.

The extensive range of spa and wellness treatments combine to create the ultimate in relaxation and indulgence.

Finalist in the 2010 and 2009 Victorian Tourism Awards and three-time winner of the Hepburn Regional Tourism Awards, Australia's renowned Japanese spa retreat is an indulgent escape featuring luxurious spa treats and holistic wellness and health treatments.

Also available is traditional accommodation and delicious cuisine. Set amid tranquil bushland in central Victoria's picturesque "spa country", Shizuka Ryokan is fully authentic in every detail including its architecture, furnishings and gardens.

Most important is the genuine and warm hospitality of the Japanese and local hosts, offering generous and personalised service including the signature four-course dinner which may be served individually to guestrooms for residential guests.

Whilst highly traditional, Shizuka Ryokan also caters for common creature comforts which are provided in a truly stylish environment.

Couples, singles and small groups come to relax, indulge, rejuvenate and immerse in the romance and tranquillity. Shizuka Ryokan is also a unique venue for small community and corporate groups to conduct retreats, workshops and meetings.

Located in Hepburn Springs near Daylesford, it's a small piece of Japan that's close to home - just a 75 minute drive from Melbourne.

For Aussies, that's much more accessible than the long flight to Kyoto.

tapas-style dining
A long-time favourite in Japan, izakaya cuisine is often interpreted as the Japanese take on tapas. Essentially, izakaya is a casual "grazing" style of dining often enjoyed whilst drinking. Featuring a variety of small dishes, it can become a whole meal or simply a light snack. Dishes are served gradually so you can relax, unwind and order whatever takes your fancy. Kampai! This menu is available only on selected Friday nights, so please check before making your reservation. You can simply hover your mouse over the particular date on our online booking facility to confirm the availability of this special service. The menu below is indicative of some of the items which may be available on some nights. Please note that the menu changes frequently and all items may not be available on any given night. Additionally, some variations may occur due to menu development and the seasonal availability of some ingredients. Yakitori: Juicy grilled chicken on skewers Gyoza: A delicate pork and vegetable steamed dumpling with a unique texture Tsukune: Sublime grilled chicken meat balls topped with a sweet sauce Ebi Fry: Golden fried prawns coated in crunchy panko breadcrumbs Teriyaki Kingfish: Barbequed kingfish with a caramelised teriyaki glaze Hiramasa: Thin slices of kingfish marinated in a rich coriander dressing Mushroom Karaage: Delicious mushroom pieces lightly dusted then deep fried Agedashi Tofu: Sweet tofu pieces lightly coated and fried in a divine ginger sauce Drinks: We would particularly recommend the Japanese and Australian beers or perhaps a cold or piping hot sake to compliment your izakaya dishes. On izakaya nights, our list selection also includes some labels available by the glass.

An award winning experience
Shizuka Ryokan was last year runner-up in the Health and Wellbeing category of the Victorian Tourism Awards. In addition, it has twice been recognised as a Finalist in these prestigious awards. In the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region, it has won the Hepburn Tourism Award for an unprecedented three consecutive years.
