Bass Coast Rail Trail

The only coastal rail trail in Victoria travels through a magnificent range of scenery. Starting at Anderson, al gradual descent through farmland leads to the coast with its roaring surf, sandy beaches and views of Bass Strait. Cross the iconic trestle bridge at Kilcunda and continue over the Powlett River through open farmland, enjoying a clear view of wind farm turbines. Pass by remnants of the coal mining days and wetlands, before finishing at Wonthaggi.

Location: Anderson to Wonthaggi
Distance: 16km one way
Track: Generally smooth dirt or gravel track
Grade: Level 1 – No experience required, suitable for beginners and children.
Level 2 – Suitable for most ages and fitness levels, some riding experience recommended.
Start: V/Line bus terminal,Anderson
Finish: Old Wonthaggi Railway Station, Wonthaggi
Note: Follow St Helens Road and then The Boulevard to Point Grant. You can return via Ventnor Road (sealed)
Getting there: This ride can be done in either direction.The trail is a mostly flat shared pathway with two moderate climbs. Take care at road crossings on the busy Bass Highway.
