Short Horse Rides

Tour operated by: Packers High Country Horse Riding

Address: Callaghans Rd, Anglers Rest, Victoria 3898

Phone: 03 5159 7241

Packers High Country Horse Riding offers short rides for one and a half hour, two hours, half day and day as well as the extended tours.

All rides are set in a remote part of the high country. Tracks are through both farmland and bush that is open and thick, follow along rivers and go up and over mountainous terrain with a few stunning secret scenery locations.

Try a half day ride from Packers to the Blue Duck Inn on the Cobungra river. Set off in the morning riding alongside the Bundarrah River, cross it a few times before taking a well used bush track to the pub set in the middle of nowhere!

Depending on the standard of riders, there are areas for some good canters. Most of the riding is done at a leisurely pace, taking in the scenery and being out bush.

Packers High Country Horse Riding is situated in remote farmland of the Bundarrah Valley, in the mountainous Omeo district and offer hourly to multi-day rides.

Treks are on offer for all standards and ages of riders and can be tailor made to your convenience. Once out the gate, you will be crossing rivers and riding along narrow bush tracks through forests not touched by man, a true wilderness experience.

Treks follow along routes that were once used by Indigenous Australians who showed the early explorers, goldminers and cattlemen the way through the mountains. You seldom see others except for the group you ride with.

Enjoy a great picnic lunch out bush then at night settle around the campfire, telling tall tales and listening to the sounds of the bush as a memorable camp oven dinner is cooked for you.

A favourite half day ride is one that leads to the Blue Duck Inn,a pub in the middle of nowhere alongside the Cobungra River. A ride through the bush then a sip at the pub, and a shorter trek home, whatever the weather.

Two comfortable eco-friendly rustic bush huts are available to those wanting a break away somewhere more remote. They are self-contained or catering can be arranged. Also available for riders, and non-riders is Packers Mountain Stay lodge style accommodation.
