Ballarat Backpackers Hostel which used to be called The Eastern Hotel is part of Ballarat History and was built in 1862.

The hotel is within three to four blocks of the central business district offering fine eating places, shopping and some popular antique outlets. Close to bus stops and the train station.

Renovated in the year 2000, to restore some of the former beauty of the 1800s the hotel boasts eight picturesque bedrooms, sitting area, and bathrooms on the first floor, two large living areas and a dining area with pool table, television and jukebox.

Ballarat Backpackers Hostel contains a fully equipped kitchenette that guests can use and common area with television.

Local directions:

From the train station walk up Lydiard Street until you get to Mair Street. Turn left into Mair Street and walk down past two sets of traffic lights until you reach Humffray Street. Turn left at the traffic lights, go over the railway line and the Hostel is located within 10 metres on the corner of Humffray and Rowe Streets.
