Ballarat is steeped in history, but it's during this annual Ballarat Heritage Weekend in May where residents and visitors are encouraged to turn back the clock and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and world class buildings.
Ballarat Heritage Weekend, held over the Mother's Day weekend in May, offers a huge program of free entertainment, activities, performances, markets, tours, dining and dancing experiences and other not to be missed activities.
This year's festival brings to life the ordinary people who built the city of Ballarat. From all countries, Ballarat attracted men and women who wanted to build a better life for their families. Some made fortunes from gold, business or manufacturing. Some grew democratic peace in this new place. All built a city based on firm foundations of community service. Discover a city rich in stories of ordinary people striving to build a home and vibrant community.
Once again, the doors will be open to some of Ballarat's finest heritage buildings - many of which are only available during this one weekend in May - so take this special opportunity to discover some of Ballarat's architectural treasures.
With many exciting events to enjoy, come along and discover Ballarat - especially the hidden Ballarat you've never had the chance to explore.
Ballarat is a stone's throw away from Melbourne - just over an hour by rail or road.
