Nestled amongst the majestic, ancient red gum trees you can experience the peace and solitude of South Mokanger Farm Cottages, a pet-friendly farm stay on the southern edge of the renowned Grampians National Park.

Stay in historic Stoneycroft Cottage built in 1864 from bluestone mined on the property by Stonemasons from Scotland or charming light filled, Mountain Duck cottage.

Both fully self-contained and generously appointed with cosy wood fires, outdoor furniture and barbecue's. South Mokanger Farm Cottages are centrally located for visiting wineries, Dunkeld, the coast and Grampians mountain exploring close to local golf courses, tennis and restaurants.

This third generation sheep and cropping property is 4500 acres and you can view seasonal farm activities including sheep mustering, as well as feeding and shearing the sheep. In summer, enjoy a refreshing dip in the large in ground swimming pool, go fishing, do a spot of yabbying or take a long peaceful walk down the lane way. In winter curl up in front of the open fire with a good book and a great local bottle of wine.

South Mokanger Farm Cottages are only 20 minutes from the famous Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld where you can enjoy a gastronomic treat.

Pets are very welcome and both cottages are fenced as well as having purpose built dog yards in case you want to go to the mountains for a day trip.

Stoneycroft Cottage and Shearers Quarters

Stoneycroft Cottage is a stone cottage built in 1864 but has been totally renovated complete with dishwasher and has two bedrooms which sleeps six people, including one queen room, and one room with two bunks. There is an open fire and lots of outdoor furniture under the veranda. Great for a couple or a family. For groups there are the adjoining Shearers Quarters (about ten metres from the cottage) which are heated and carpeted and sleeps up to ten people, only available as overflow sleeping to Stoneycroft Cottage. This gives a total of three double bedrooms, three twin single rooms and a bunk room with two bunks. There are two bathrooms with toilets and showers.7

Mountain Duck Cottage

Mountain Duck Cottage is a very well presented, renovated self contained cottage with four bedrooms sleeping nine. One queen room, one double with single over, one bunk and one twin. One bathroom with shower over the bath. Separate toilet and external toilet as well. The new kitchen has an extension table to seat all for those memorable stories in the open plan sitting room, with sumptuous leather couches, and a wood fire and reverse cycle air-conditioning. The north facing veranda is a great spot for a cuppa or breakfast.4

Local directions

From Melbourne take the Western Highway to Ballarat then take the Glenelg Highway to Dunkeld. Two kilometres out of Dunkeld, turn right at the turn off for Cavendish. Travel 20 kilometres and turn right into Gardners Road. Follow through to the T intersection and turn left. They are the first property on the left (follow signs).
