South Bay Eco Adventures 90 minute Discovery tour is a taste of what Southern Port Phillip Bay has to offer.
Once you leave the Queenscliff Harbour, the history of the Port Phillip Bay lighthouses and shipping channels will be highlighted as you traverse the bay to Point Nepean. Point Nepean offers glimpses of the notorious Rip, unveiling the shipwreck past of the early settlers and the present day technology and services allowing ships to enter the Port of Melbourne.
As you drift past Fort Nepean into Nepean Bay Marine National Park, the rich military history of Port Phillip Bay will be unravelled. Nepean Bay offers a sheltered viewpoint of the Bay, with views back to Queenscliff.
Cruising east from Point Nepean we traverse the dolphin sanctuary, where pods of dolphins can be seen frolicking in the waters of Portsea Quarantine Station. From here we shift our direction north to the Bay's resident Australian Fur Seal haul out at Chinaman's Hat. It's a great photo opportunity as the seals bask in the sun. Then as we near the end of our trip we return via the Australasian Gannet colony at Pope's Eye, just in time for lunch at the Harbour.
