Commonwealth Championship Sheepdog Trials

03 5568 5232

8 - 14 Feb 2016

The Commonwealth Championship Sheepdog Trials are open to all registered sheep dog workers throughout Australia. Novice, Open and Improver trials will be held over a period of one week. Included will be the running of the The Australian Dog of the Year.

The top dog from each state will be vying for this title, with runs being held during the week. All finals will be held on Sunday. On three nights of the trial a Trans Tasman trial is held, this event is a combination of Australian and New Zealand courses.

Handlers spend numerous hours training their dogs to move three sheep through a variety of obstacles to a pen where the dog must keep them until the handler closes the gate. All dogs start with 100 points with a judge deducting points when mistakes are made.
