Overview
Festival of Sails is Australia's largest keel boat regatta. First held in 1844, it's also the oldest sporting event in Victoria. The event attracts up to 450 yachts and over 4,500 competitors, with thousands of spectators coming along to enjoy the festivities. Held annually over the Australia Day long weekend, this is a must do event.
The sailing program commences with the traditional Melbourne to Geelong Passage Race, followed by three days of exciting sailing in Geelong and Corio Bay. The free program of activities in Geelong includes live entertainment, roving performers, gourmet food and wine, art and craft markets, a free interactive on and off-water 'Come and Try' Sports Zone, the Bay FM Fireworks Spectacular and lots more along the Geelong waterfront.

Bay FM Fireworks Spectacular
Festival of Sails will again host the popular Bay FM Fireworks Spectacular on the Geelong Waterfront, on Australia Day (Thursday 26th January 2012). The show will commence at sunset so make sure you bring the family down to the Geelong Waterfront and secure a spot on the grass in front of the free entertainment. Bay FM will again be programming the backing track for the show that will be simulcast on Bay FM 93.9.
'Go Sailing' Program
Yachting Victoria are offering an opportunity for anyone to try sailing for free in a safe and fun environment on the Waterfront in Geelong. 'Go Sailing' - Free learn to sail lessons with qualified instructors in Pacer dinghies. Register at the 'Go Sailing' marquee located on the sand at Geelong's Eastern Beach, daily; Geelong - Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 January 2012
