Nestled among the coastal dunes just metres from the spectacular Victorian Surf Coast, the exceptional Barwon Heads Golf Club is one of the most appealing regional layouts in Australia. Undulating fairways, strategic bunkers, slick greens and testing winds all combine to present both a challenging and visual delight.
The course is ranked number eight of Australia's top 100 public access courses by Ausgolf 2015 guide, number three in Victoria and rated in Australia's top ten public access courses by Golf Australia magazine. Its magnificent par three 13th hole has been inducted into Australian Golf Digest's 'Iconic Holes' hall of fame.
The magnificent clubhouse, listed by Heritage Victoria and the National Trust, is famed for its ambience and old world charm. House guests can enjoy the open balconies in summer or the luxurious open fires during the cooler months. Upstairs, there are 19 ensuite rooms, and a variety of packages are available incorporating your stay with golf, dining and entertainment. Other facilities include tennis courts, billiards, a driving range, a short-game practice facility, a par-3 course, an undercover coaching area and a professional shop.
Take some well-earned time off and be enchanted by over 100 years of golfing history.
The course, which opened in 1922, is the only course in Australia of the 1920s and 1930s based on the design of coastal golf course architecture in Scotland. Historically it is linked to the world's most famous golf course designer of that time, Dr Alister Mackenzie, who consulted on its design in 1931.
