Bogong Electric is a free performance and exhibition event focusing on the Kiewa Hydro-Electric scheme. Through installation and performance national and international artists have created works in response to their encounters with the scheme using electricity as a medium within the process of production and presentation.
The Performance Program, held 1 to 5 November (Melbourne Cup weekend) at different sites in Bogong Village, it will feature a series of performances, installations, and artist talks by national and international artists. In addition a series of commentaries will be presented at selected sites of the hydro-electric scheme.
The Exhibition Program, will continue after the Melbourne Cup weekend and will be accessible each weekend of November until December 1 at Bogong Village, between 11am and 4pm. Starting point Bogong Centre for Sound Culture.
Bogong Electric is designed to investigate the relationship between the natural and constructed environment using artistic practices that thematically reference electricity within the process of production and presentation. The relationship between artworks inspired by the hydro electric scheme and their presentation within Bogong Village will provide audiences with a diverse range of encounters and experiences unlike any other.
An additional exhibition presented by the Kiewa Valley Historical Society, electricity: Watts the Story is being held at Mount Beauty Information. It focuses on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme displaying items used by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria during construction days and a collection of photos and objects.
