The Beechworth Celtic Festival is coming of age so come and celebrate its 21st Birthday on the first weekend after the Mebourne Cup. With the usual array of Celtic bands to excite the music lover and the displays of pipe bands to stir the passions, this famous weekend is again a great reason to visit Beechworth.
The Balmoral Highland Dancing Inc. will again host the annual Victorian Scottish Union Highland Dancing Competition with competitors from all over the state dancing in costume and competing for championship recognition. You can join in the fun too at the Ceilidh, a traditional Scottish get-together, featuring singing, poetry and dancing where audience participation is encouraged.
With a diverse range of concerts, performances and workshops all with a Celtic flavour, there is plenty for the family. Ticketed live music venues will be located throughout beautiful Beechworth, in its historic hotels and halls, with a free stage located in the heart of town.
Demonstrations of traditional instruments like the Bodhran, a Celtic frame drum, and workshops for likes of the tin whistle and fiddle will offer unique learning opportunities.
And of course The Grand Parade on Saturday afternoon is always a great family event. It will feature the firing of historical muskets, colourful floats, energetic dancers, national Celtic costumes and flags, and will culminate with the stirring massed pipe bands. The Celtic Market will offer something for everyone with food, traditional crafts, jewellery, face painting, clan information and more.
