Overview

Alto Hotel on Bourke is Melbourne's multi award winning four star eco-friendly boutique apartment hotel and is one of the few Green Star and EarthCheck accredited, environmentally friendly hotels in the city. Offering with many little complimentary touches including free wireless internet and espresso coffee.

Located in Melbourne's city centre within walking distance of the airport bus terminal, shopping, two tram stops and train station, Convention and Exhibition Centre, Crown Casino, Etihad Stadium, Bourke Street Mall, shops and restaurants.

The décor is stylish, modern and elegant, all bathrooms and kitchens are set out in granite and stainless steel, and the bedrooms and lounge rooms are decorated in rich, colours set on a soothing background.

The hotel is high on technology, all rooms are wired for cable and wireless broadband and have two telephones. All rooms have iPod dock, LCD television's, the one and two bedroom apartments also have a DVD and a second LCD television in the main bedroom.

By staying at Alto Hotel on Bourke you are making a positive commitment to the environment. Their carbon footprint to an average of 11.8 kilograms per room, compared to estimate of 24-26 kilograms as set by the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research Council. Remaining carbon offset via the Carbon Reduction Institute. They also offer free parking for guests arriving with electric or hybrid vehicles and get free recharging from 100 per cent green energy. This and living up to the motto 'Sit Hospes Rex' which means the guest be king, has earned the hotel several awards for environmental and hospitality excellence.

Cancellations and or changes to be notified at least two days prior to arrival date, in order to avoid a no show or cancellation charge of one full night's room rate. All bookings require a deposit of one night room rate. Advance Purchase offers no cancellation, change or refund allowed.

Local directions

Getting from Melbourne Airport to Alto Hotel couldn't be easier. By taxi from outside the airport arrival lounge, for approximately $55 and it will take 20 to 30 minute drive to the hotel. Airport express Skybus, direct from the airport. Buses depart directly from in front of the airport arrival lounge every 10 minutes from 6 AM to late in the evening, and every 30 minutes during the night. This service will take you to Southern Cross station and Alto on Bourke is just around the corner.

City Bees - Regreening Melbourne and Making Honey
Alto Hotel joins the frontline in the war against pests threatening Australia's honey industry. Approximately 65 per cent of agricultural production in Australia relies on the pollination efforts of wild bees and managed hives. Under a two-year federal government-funded project the "Bee Force" will be on the lookout to spot signs of trouble and help protect them against viruses from overseas countries. Alto Hotel in conjunction with Melbourne Rooftop Honey and nine other inner city beekeepers will take part in the pilot project to ensure that the authorities are on the ball as soon as that happens.
