Sea Kayak Australia is offering an "Introduction to Sea Kayaking" course. It is great for first time paddlers and those who have never had any formal instruction.

The aim of this class is to give you a good foundation in the knowledge and skills essential for safe and enjoyable paddling.

You will learn how to use kayak equipment, what to wear and how to manoeuvring your kayak. Basic skills such as manoeuvring your kayak forward, reverse it, move side ways, turning and steering.

Then learn more techniques throughout the day, from low support, sculling and edging to 'wet-exits', capsize recovery, rescuing others and towing.

Sea kayaking essential theory is also taught such as tides, weather, navigation, group management, safety and trip planning.

this course supplies you with a Kayak, paddling gear and course notes. The course is conducted over two days and goes from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm each day. Contact for more details.

Cancellation and booking policy

All tours must be booked and paid before commencement of tour. If a tour is cancelled because of bad weather a suitable date for another tour will be scheduled in consultation with the customer. Because sea kayaking is an outdoor activity there may on occasions where it could be raining - the tour will not be cancelled for this reason. Clients who fail to attend a tour will not receive a refund. Clients who are sick or injured before the tour may reschedule however no refund will be provided if they do not decide to take up this option. For group bookings it is the responsibility of the person booking to fill these positions. If not everyone turns up a refund will not be provided as the group has received a discounted rate. For multi day tours at Wilsons promontory a refund will be provided if the tour is cancelled due to poor weather conditions or insufficient numbers. The refund will be 85 per cent of total cost.

Kayak Hire in Melbourne is located 300 metres from the Yarra River (all year round) and Maribyrnong River (Spring/Summer). A kayak trolley is provided to transport your kayak down to the river. Ask them about the sights and places to stop for lunch when kayaking on the water.
