To celebrate his 80th birthday, playwright, actor and MTC alumnus Alan Hopgood performs his popular one-man play The Carer.
The play was first toured extensively by the late Charles 'Bud' Tingwell. The play concerns George Parker, who lost his wife to Alzheimer's after caring for her for five years. But in his reflections, aided by her photo and phone calls to family and friends, the positivity he demonstrates makes the play an entertaining and moving comedy.
The season also celebrates Alan's sixty-year career as an actor (MTC; Bellbird; Neighbours; Emperor of the Ghetto; HealthPlay) and playwright (And the Big Men Fly; The Golden Legion of Cleaning Women; Private Yuk Objects; Weary, the story of Sir Edward Dunlop) and latterly, HealthPlay, a series of nine plays bringing the worlds of arts and health together, for which he was made a Member of the Order of Australia.
This strictly limited one-week season also features a special matinee reading of the play by Henry Mera, using the French translation, as performed in Paris in 2012.
The Saturday 6 September matinee at 2pm will be performed by Henry Mera, using the French translation, as performed in Paris in 2012.
