Gulf Station began in the 1840's as part of a 25,000 acre run known as the Gulf, stretching from Yarra Glen to Toolangi. The Bell family began their lives here in the late 1840's and the homestead and outbuildings are a part of the legacy that the family has left behind for you to explore and enjoy. Each of the outbuildings tells an exciting story about the daily life on a pioneer farm, with an array of traditional farming implements waiting to be discovered.
The homestead is a journey in itself, with new interpretation that will transport you into the domestic life of a rural colonial family where a mother's word was law. Once hosting an array of rare breed farm animals Gulf Station is still home to many friendly animals including horses, pigs, chickens and geese. Take a stroll through the idyllic countryside and find one of Gulf Stations many beautiful spots for a picnic.
Restoration of this incredible place is still underway, but you're invited to be a part of the rich history of Gulf Station this year. For those that have visited Gulf Station before, come and see the progress made so far with the restoration.
On 20 May 2012, the National Motoring Heritage Day will also take place at Yarra Glen Racecourse with a free shuttle to Gulf Station.
