From the towering coastal cliffs and sprawling white beaches along the Great Ocean Road to the bustling markets, riverside picnic spots and nearby Otways, the quaint seaside town of Anglesea is a celebration of life by the water.

Surf, sun and kangaroos

Play in the sun on Anglesea's main beach, a wide sandy expanse beside the Anglesea River, which is perfect for swimming, surfing, or simply relaxing. On holiday with the kids? Paddle in protected waters at nearby Point Roadknight beach.

Learn from the pros with lessons in surfing, sailing and windsurfing at one of the local beaches. Play a memorable round of golf alongside kangaroos in the natural bush setting of Anglesea Golf Club.

Recharge after a day in the sun with refreshments from the local strip of cafes and eateries.

Riverside adventures

Visit on the weekend and follow the buzz to the riverbank for the vibrant Sunday morning market with its eclectic array of stalls. Wander along the boardwalk to find a riverside picnic spot or hire a canoe and paddle around the channels at your own pace. For a break from the kids, let them run free in the adventure playground at Coogorah Park.

Two feet and two wheels

Walk along the rugged coastline or head inland beside the Anglesea River on the 44-kilometre Surf Coast Walk. For those in search of a real challenge, test your stamina on the new Surf Coast Century course, a 100 kilometre running trail taking in wild beaches, towering cliff and remote wilderness.

Bring your mountain bike and get into gear at the four cross track at Anglesea Bike Park before exploring the Great Otway National Park on tracks around Eumeralla and on named tracks through the park (seasonal closures apply).

Getting creative

Get to the heart of Angelsea's art community by setting out along the Mosaic Walk, a 2.5-kilometre stroll through Anglesea taking in six mosaic art pieces, then see how the sea air and outdoor life inspires local artists at workshops and galleries.
