Explore Picnic at Hanging Rock country in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Discover beautiful natural settings and historic locations: backdrop to a new production of the classic Australian tale.

Set in 1900s Australia, the series was filmed at Hanging Rock, and the towns of Clunes, Macedon and Woodend, just outside of Melbourne, with support from Screen Australia and Film Victoria.

Historic houses across Melbourne also feature in the series. Visit Werribee Mansion, Labassa in Caulfield, Ripponlea in Elsternwick and Como House in Toorak for a sense of turn-of-the-century Victorian grandeur.

Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games) stars as English headmistress Mrs Hester Appleyard, beside Samara Weaving as Irma Leopold, Madeleine Madden as Marion Quade and Lily Sullivan as Miranda Reid.

The new drama series from FremantleMedia is based on Joan Lindsay's 1967 Australian Gothic novel Picnic at Hanging Rock. The novel inspired Peter Weir's 1975 film of the same name and an air of mystery still surrounds the location in Victoria's beautiful Macedon Ranges region.

The 2018 six-part series first aired in Australia on 6 May 2018, on Foxtel.

Watch Picnic at Hanging Rock from 8.30pm Sunday 6 May on Foxtel Showcase and catch up on Foxtel on demand or Foxtel Now.
