Seville is home to a few small wineries that punch above their weight. Start with surprising Sparkling or Tempranillo amidst the ambience of a jazz band at Seville Hill, then it's down the road to Payne's Rise, where the cellar door is in the original 1860s homestead and you can sample wine under shady elms and oaks.

Venture around the corner to sip sought-after Shiraz among rolling hills and pastures at Seville Estate.

It's a short hop to Brumfield Winery, where homemade sourdough bread adds to the appeal; good coffee, too.

Meet the winemaker and sit under the trees at Five Oaks Vineyard, then duck around the bend to Elmswood Estate, where antipasto is on hand to complement the wine.

It's eight kilometres to pretty Morgan Vineyards, where you can taste estate cider as well as handmade wine.

Just over the highway, Killara Estate is a relaxed family-friendly stop for wine, food and hill views. Drive 16 kilometres north to taste the wares at the Badger's Brook Winery cellar door then settle at Tramonto, the on-site restaurant.

It's mere minutes to lovely Soumah of Yarra Valley with its northern Italian-style wines and trattoria. From there, make a 10-minute hop into Healesville for cellar-door tastings of Mac Forbes Wines at Graceburn Wine Room. Linger for a bistro meal on a Friday or Saturday night.

Just on the other side of Healesville, Boat O'Craigo has a reputation for outstanding hand-crafted wines. Sip while keeping an eye on kangaroos in the vineyard.

Your final stop is a short drive up to Dixons Creek and Mandala Wines. Try a mix of classic varieties in the cellar door and stop for dinner in the glasshouse DiVino Ristorante. 71km
