The Willows is an off the grid, remote high country getaway in the Bundarrah Valley, Anglers Rest. Located halfway between the country towns of Mitta Mitta and Omeo, surrounded by mountains, Alpine National Park and three rivers - the Cobungra, Bundarrah and Mita Mitta.
For the active, there is adventurous horse riding into the surrounding wilderness, seasonal white water rafting and wild trout fly fishing. For the less active, drives up onto the Bogong High Plains, the Mitta Mitta pub, Omeo or the Blue Duck Inn can also include short walks and dining.
The Willows, overlooking the Bundarrah river and paddocks of kangaroos and horses, provides a variety of comfortable, rustic self-contained accommodation. No curtains so stars can be seen at night. Rooms are comfortable without that clinical look and heaps of pumped up pillows. And no neighbours. The main guesthouse has five upstairs bedrooms, one downstairs, two bathrooms, a downstairs dining / kitchen area with wood fire, and outdoor campfire barbecue area.
Two authentic Australian bush huts are down on the river flats. The Cattleman's log hut, built around 1900 and the Iron Hut, of the 1940's. Both have a comfotable rustic style - think glamping.
An original log hut built around 1900's. It is simple but cosy with verandas on two sides, an open fire pit outside providing areas to sit and do nothing after a day of riding or fishing. Inside is open-planned, double bed and single bed with enough room for a third on the floor, if needed. A wood fire place, small gas stove, kitchen facilities and wooden floors that you can walk on without having to take off boots. Adjacent to the hut is an open plan stone bathroom, one side screened with timber slats to provide a view up valley. The outdoor toilet is a short walk away.
The Iron Hut is a comfortable authentic rustic hut perfect for a romantic getaway.A wooden deck overlooks a pond fed by a flowing water race. The water flows out of this and continues on past the Cattlemans Hut and back to the river. Below the deck a stone seat wraps round a fire pit, a fine place for a sip. Inside there is a double and single bed. A bathroom is attached to the hut though there is an outdoor toilet a short walk away. There are also kitchen facilities and a wood fire place.
The Willows is a lodge style mud brick homestead, overlooking river flats on the Bundarrah River. Behind the house looms Mount Ned, formed of huge pink granite boulders, part of the Alpine National Park. Upstairs are five bedrooms (four double beds and one single bed) and bathroom. Downstairs is another bathroom, double bedroom, kitchen and dining / living area. Another bedroom is available in a separate adjoining building where there is also another large living / dining area and fireplace. A large veranda provides plenty of space to sit back and be social, or find your own corner. There is also a campfire pit outside, where many a guest has sat around the fire, stars above, glass in hand telling tales into the early hours.
