Merrimeet Cottages is a small, family run business set in a hectare of English woodland. The residence is a grand Tudor house accompanied by three separate garden apartments and three river cottages. All contain wood fires, reverse cycle air conditioning, queen size beds and self contained kitchenettes. The rambling gardens flow on to the Canyon walk along side the Ovens River, the centre of beautiful Bright five minutes walk away.
Since February 2015, Merrimeet has been owned and run by a young family of three, Alistair, Kellie and Josie. In September 2015, the family swelled to five with the addition of two gorgeous twin girls called Maya and Heidi.
Alistair was raised in Tasmania, Kellie hails from Scotland and together they try and provide for their guests with a combination of laid back Tasmanian warmth and welcoming British charm. Josie turned two last September, you will probably find her tottering in the gardens.
Lychgate is the second of two self contained ground floor one-bedroom apartments. Renovated and refurnished as of July, 2016, it has a new queen size bed, an ensuite with a single spa bath and a separate shower and a wood fire in the living space. Being triple brick with terra cotta floors, it is snug in winter and cool in summer. The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare meals or a tasty snack to be enjoyed in seating by the entrance, lit up by an old coach lamp. Lychgate Apartment is adjacent to a old wooden gate which opens to a barbecue area and continues down to the Ovens River and swimming hole.

Riverdeck is one of two one bedroom self contained cottages. They both compliment the old world apartment building with high roofs and rendered walls blending in to the rustic gardens. Riverdeck has a queen size bed, a double spa bath, a wood fire and a well equipped galley kitchen. The living area has views of our beautiful gardens and the magnificent tudor style Merrimeet residence. At one end of the living space is a wood burning fire, at the other there is a private decking area set high in the garden canopy with glimpses of the Ovens River through the trees.
Middle Cottage is the second of two one bedroom self contained cottages. It is the more secluded of the two, tucked away from sight with a wide deck at the entrance. It has a queen size bed, a double spa bath, a wood fire and a well equipped galley kitchen. You will wind through thick gardens along a path to the hidden entrance. Shared barbecue facilities are nearby and the Canyon Walk running beside the Ovens River is at the bottom of the lawns.
Stonewall Cottage is the larger of our three cottages. With a spacious living area and two large bedrooms with queen beds, this is our family cottage. French doors open on to a verandah with a large private courtyard and it's own barbecue. There is a wood fire and a large kitchen ideal for catering for families. It sleeps four comfortably and a comfortable, single, fold out bed or travel cot is available upon request.
