Take a trip back to the time when Fitzroy was a red light district and viewed by the police as the home of criminals within Melbourne, in a Fitzroy Historical Crime Tour.
The walking tours are the creation of and are hosted by true crime writer and historian Michael Shelford. Learn about Melbourne's most notorious law breakers from 100 years ago.
The two hour walking tours take place every Thursday and Friday at 2:00pm and Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm from the Workers Club Hotel in Melbourne's inner suburb of Fitzroy.
The suburb of Fitzroy is right on the edge of Melbourne's CBD and is easily accessible by public transport.
You will receive a booklet containing photographs of the people featured on the tour so that you can put a face to their adventures.
Along the way you will discover former brothels, gangland murder sites, sly grog shops and the places where criminals such as Squizzy Taylor drank, fought and faced trial. You will get to know what it was like to struggle for survival in Melbourne's 'home of criminals' - old Fitzroy.
