Start at Wombat Hill House, a pretty cafe among the trees in the Botanic Gardens' old caretaker's cottage: sit in the garden in summer, by the fire in winter.
Wind your way down and around to vintage Cliffy's Emporium for fine coffee, local produce and speciality groceries.
Mosey along Vincent Street, Daylesford's main shopping strip, where fine stops include coffee-centric Larder, a champion of local produce, and Sweet Decadence for exquisite handmade chocolates.
Continue over Central Springs Road to the Daylesford Farmers Market (fourth Saturday of the month on the primary school oval) and onward to the lake. The Boatshed is a wonderful place for brunch.
Stroll around the water's edge (mind the geese) to fetch up at Lake House, the town's multi-tasking jewel, for elegant produce-centred meals, spa treatments and luxurious accommodation. 4.4km
