A work first Terra Australis – Land of the Imagination Australian Chamber Choir, directed by Douglas Lawrence.
Experience this musical voyage of discovery as each great work for choir is matched by year with voyages in search of Terra Australis, the fabled Great Southern Land.
The program includes music by the first published black composer, Vicente Lusitano. This astounding piece of chromatic polyphony is contemporary with Oronce Finé’s Atlas of 1531, in which Terra Australis is depicted.
Matthew Flinders died the day after his book, A Voyage to Terra Australis, was published in 1814, the same year as Beethoven’s Farewell Song. Terra Australis - Land of the Imagination.
