Paddle Australia Canoe Marathon Championships

Corio Bay Rowing Club, Barwon Terrace, 10, South Geelong, Victoria, 3220
17 - 19 Apr 2020 (dates to be confirmed)

Don’t miss Australia’s fastest marathon paddling event, the Paddle Australia Canoe Marathon Championships.

Australia’s best will compete for selection to go to ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships this year in Baerum, Norway.

Paddlers will race up to 30 kilometers on the Barwon River from Corio Bay Rowing Club in a looping course. A shorter and even faster ‘Short Course’ event sees paddlers compete over three laps on a 1.2 kilometer loop.

All ages are represented in this event with paddlers younger than 12 and over 75 enjoying all the sport has to offer. This year a team based ‘novice event’ will give all paddling abilities a chance to enjoy the beautiful Barwon river.

Historically people have carried their kayaks and canoes over long distances around rapids and weirs. In modern paddle-sports this tradition is continued in high paced portages where athletes jump out and run with their boats over 100 meter multiple times in the race.

Local vendors will be selling refreshments at the event for spectators and participants.

Due to current advice on public gatherings, please contact the host of this event to confirm it is proceeding as planned.
