How to get there
The site is a 20–25 minute boat ride from Portsea (Mornington Peninsula) and Queenscliff (Bellarine Peninsula). To gain access divers must either book a dive tour with a licensed tour operator or book a slot on the public mooring through Parks Victoria. There are four moorings and the site can accommodate approximately 60 divers at any one time.
Dive bookings will give divers exclusive use of a mooring for two hours at a cost of $30 per boat regardless of the number of divers on board. The money raised will contribute some of the cost to manage the site.
The site has been established specifically for diving and snorkelling and access is restricted to visitors participating in these activities only.
Divers wishing to access the site must hold a current and industry recognised entry–level qualification (equivalent to Australian Standard AS4005.1) with appropriate experience for the dive being undertaken.
Protect the site
Enjoy the marine environment without touching, disturbing or removing any of the plants and animals. Ensure you take any litter with you when you leave.
For the protection of the marine environment and the safety of divers and snorkellers, a number of activities are prohibited within the ex-HMAS Canberra dive site. Prohibited activities include boating, anchoring, fishing, netting, spearing, taking or killing of marine life. All methods of fishing are prohibited.Content: Visit Victoria
