Featuring the finest orchestral players from around Gippsland under the direction of maestro David Williams OAM performing 5 to 9 featuring Beethoven 5th Symphony, Bottesini Double Bass Concerto No 2 and finishing with Dvorak Ninth Symphony from the New World.
Like Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa or Shakespeare’s “To be or not to be” soliloquy, Beethoven’s Fifth is a work that has been so often reproduced, excerpted and remixed that its four note opening is perhaps the most recognised musical signature in the world. It was even sent on the Voyager spacecraft as an example of our very best musical composition. In the hands of the Gippsland Symphony this famous work will live and breathe its destiny.
Dvorak’s New World Symphony was voted most popular symphony in the ABC Hot 100 countdown and holds the prestigious position of being the most played and loved symphonies of all time.
Bottesini was widely acclaimed, and his virtuosic skill in the bass led many to view the double bass as a diverse and versatile instrument. This is a very special performance under the incredible ability of soloist Steve Reeves.
