Grade: Easy. Four-wheel drive only.
Distance: 229 kilometres
Duration: Full day or overnight
Experience the legendary Snowy River country by four-wheel driving into some of the most inaccessible areas for incredible landscapes.
Go deep into the Snowy River National Park and witness the spectacular Basin Creek Falls and the Little River Falls. Stunning views punctuate your drive between stops. Little River Gorge is Victoria's deepest gorge – a 400-metre walking track leads to an awe-inspiring cliff-top lookout.
You'll also pass MacKillops Bridge, which was originally built in 1931-32 and washed away in the January 1934 floods. The bridge reopened in 1935 and is a popular place to pitch a tent for the night.
Alternatively, make your way past the restored Ambyne Suspension Bridge and multiple riverside picnic areas to the tranquil Goongerah camping ground on Ellery Creek.
Warnings: Log truck traffic. The descent beyond Little River Gorge into McKillops Bridge is one of Victoria's most precarious roads, unsuitable for trailers and caravans.Content: Visit Victoria
