Immerse yourself in the art of woodworking, as Ballarat woodsmith Paul Ryle takes you on a journey through the techniques used by the bodgers of yesteryear. Nestle yourself amidst Paul’s stunning country property in Buninyong, and learn all the basics of working with unseasoned wood. Use a drawknife on a shaving horse, operate a foot-powered (pole) lathe, and forge your own beautiful piece of woodwork for your home. This is a one-day introductory course with all materials provided. The course is held in the Green Woodsmith purpose-built outdoor workshop (or indoors depending on weather).
Additional Information: Paul runs green woodworking courses throughout the year in Buninyong, just outside of Ballarat. Students work with freshly cut timber and a few simple hand tools. Classes are conducted in Paul’s carefree outdoor workshop, or in the shed with its wood fired stove during the colder seasons. All tools and materials will be supplied. Participants will need to bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee is included. Dress appropriately. Canvas aprons provided. All timber is locally salvaged from arborists. You will leave with your handcrafted spoon and an information sheet including tips on tools, books and resources to continue your woodworking ways.
