Irresistible Jazz - John Scurry's Reverse Swing

The Pub With Two Names, Corner of Doveton and Mair Streets, Ballarat, Victoria, 3350
28 Jul 2019

A must see concert event, with outstanding Jazz performed at the highest level.

Some of Australia's finest musicians present a smorgasbord of irresistibly swinging, melodic and original music that offers a nod and a wink to many traditions while being indebted to none.

Originally formed several years ago by veteran jazz guitarist John Scurry to revisit old tunes in a new light.

The band has of late, since the release of its first CD Post Matinee has emphatically been a vehicle to perform original compositions as a means of creating new Standards.

With one foot in the tradition and the other firmly embracing the possibilities of new melodies and structures, with verve and swing this collective continues to value add to the Australian Songbook.

"Sometimes Scurry's music sounds like swing, or mainstream, or even modern jazz. In reality it is Ellingtonian defying categorization.” Eric Myers, The Australian.
Featuring John Scurry - guitar, Eugene Ball - trumpet, Brennan Hamilton-Smith - reeds, Sam Keevers - piano and Howard Cairns - bass.

Lunch available at venue, please call to make a booking.
