Meet the Artist: Raquel Ormella

80 Wilson Street, Horsham, Victoria, 3400
04 Nov 2018

Bring your newest craft project, be it knitting, crochet or needle point, otherwise bring a point of view. Join exhibiting artist Raquel Ormella as she inhabits her survey exhibition, I hope you get this, and gets to work on one her latest works.

Ormella’s works aim to stimulate contemplation, connection and engagement with current issues, without making her own position necessarily explicit. Very often, the materials she uses are things that everyone has at home, or for the hoarders, in some of our cupboards. She invites visitors to engage, to reflect, and bring their own understanding and experiences to the show at the same time.

Ormella was awarded the prestigious Fisher’s Ghost Art Award from the Campbelltown Art Centre, NSW; Warrnambool Art Gallery’s New Social Commentaries Prize (2006); Western Sydney Artist Fellowship from the NSW Ministry for the Arts (2000); and the Australia Council Studio Residency in Barcelona, Spain (1999). In 2015 Ormella completed a PhD in Visual Arts at the Australia National University, Canberra where she is currently Painting lecturer.
