The Space Company presents a double bill of documentary theatre. Starring multi-award winning ABC presenter and performer, Joel Carnegie, and award winning actor, Tom Molyneux, with direction by Tom Molyneux (Stardust) and James Jackson (The Mission), these are two extraordinary stories of ordinary Australians whose legacies still reverberate today.
In ‘Stardust’, award-winning ABC presenter and performer, Joel Carnegie, uncovers what his grandfather, esteemed Victorian jazz musician, Col Brain, wanted us to know about life through the things he left behind. For 25 years, a locked cupboard sat in a family garage. So what was inside? This story originally aired as a radio cabaret documentary on ABC Radio National.
In The Mission, award-winning actor, Tom Molyneux, traces the story of his relative, a ‘Fighting Gunditjmara’ man, Allan McDonald, one of Victoria’s first Indigenous soldiers to enlist for World War I. Allan returned home from war only to be forced from his traditional lands. What drove him to fight for a country that didn't even recognise him? This solo documentary theatre performance traces an account of a soldier at war; both at home and abroad.
Two stories about love, music and war, and all the things that people leave behind.
