Who is the high flying VFL legend who hails from Port Fairy? It is none other than John Coleman, born in 1928 to Albert and Ella, with three older siblings Lawna, Thurla and Albert. Coleman was known for his spectacular marking and goal kicking abilities, scoring 527 goals in just 98 senior matchs. He is also just one of many notable Australians Born in Port Fairy.
To Acknowledge and showcase the significant number of people who started life in the seaside town, the Port Fairy museum are hosting a special exhibition.
Featuring alongside coleman are a former Victorian Premier, an outstanding mathematician, an Australian cricket Captain, the first female Victorian member of parliament, a Logie Winner, the best jockey of his generation and a multi record holding cyclist.
There will also be artifacts from the Port Fairy Museums own collection and from other galleries that have not been on display in Port Fairy for the past 100 years.
Opening times Wednesdays and Saturdays 2:00pm to 5:00pm, and Sundays from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
