Fun with History - 'Port Fairy Historic Wharf Walk'

Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre, 4 Bank Street, Port Fairy, Victoria, 3284
24 Nov 2019

Join one of our expert guides on our Fun with History 'Historic Wharf Walk' and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Historic Port Precinct on the Moyne River.

This tour will explore the Port area's rich history, uncovering fascinating and often little-known stories about the characters and events that shaped Port Fairy’s very early development with the Norfolk pines and colonial buildings forming a picturesque backdrop.

At its peak in the 1850s, the port was the second busiest in Australia. Wool, wheat and gold were loaded onto great sailing ships bound for England. The ships anchored in the bay while goods and passengers were ferried back and forth from the wharf on smaller craft, known as lighters.

Tour operates most Sundays and is approximately one and a half hours. Meet at the Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre at 10:50am for a 11:00am departure.
